If wood is wet, the fire’s energy is wasted boiling off water instead of heating your room. This results in poor heat output, excessive smoke, and the buildup of creosote (tar) in your chimney, which is a leading cause of chimney fires.
Ready to Burn” is a quality standard (and certification scheme) ensuring that firewood has a moisture content of 20% or less. Wood meeting this standard burns cleaner, produces more heat, and emits significantly less smoke than unseasoned “wet” wood.
Hardwoods (Oak, Ash, Birch) come from slow-growing deciduous trees. They are denser, provide more heat per log, and burn for a longer duration.
Softwoods (Pine, Spruce) come from evergreen trees. They are less dense and burn very quickly. While great for kindling, they aren’t ideal for long-lasting heat.
Oak: Best for long, slow burns (ideal for overnight heat).
Ash: The ultimate all-rounder; easy to light and very consistent.
Birch: Best for bright, lively flames and quick heat-ups.
Mixed Loads: The best of both worlds, using Birch to start and Oak to sustain.
Keep your wood in a dry, ventilated area. A dedicated log store with a roof and open sides is ideal. Avoid wrapping logs tightly in plastic tarpaulins, as this traps moisture and causes mold. Always keep logs off the ground on a pallet.
Yes! Kiln-dried hardwoods are perfect for cooking because they reach high temperatures quickly and contain no chemical additives. Birch is particularly popular for pizza ovens due to its intense flame.
Blackened glass is usually caused by damp wood or restricting the air supply too much (slumbering the fire). Using logs with <20% moisture and ensuring your stove has enough oxygen will keep the glass crystal clear.
For a standard user (3–4 evenings a week), a 1m³ crate typically lasts 4–6 weeks. A 2m³ giant crate can often last an entire winter season for moderate users, making it the most cost-effective way to buy.
When you burn dry, sustainably sourced hardwood in a modern Eco-Design stove, it is a low-carbon way to heat your home. Dry wood produces minimal particulate matter compared to wet wood or coal.
Yes. Even the cleanest-burning wood produces some residue. We recommend having your chimney swept at least once a year to ensure safety and maintain proper airflow for your stove.
During the off-season, we usually deliver within 2–3 working days. However, during peak winter months (October–February), lead times can extend to 3–5 working days. We always recommend “stocking up before the frost” to avoid the winter rush.
Not necessarily. As long as you have provided clear instructions on where to leave the crate or bag, our drivers can complete the delivery while you are out. However, please ensure the delivery point is accessible and off the public highway.
Yes. We utilize HIAB crane vehicles for many of our deliveries. This allows us to lift crates over small walls, fences, or hedges, provided the vehicle can get safely alongside the drop zone.
Note: Please specify if you require HIAB service during checkout, as some smaller deliveries may be performed via a pallet truck/tail-lift vehicle instead.
If we are using a pallet truck (tail-lift), we can only deliver onto hard, flat surfaces like tarmac or concrete. Pallet trucks cannot move over gravel, grass, or steep inclines. If your driveway is gravel, please request a HIAB delivery so we can lift the wood into position
Our delivery trucks are large. We require a minimum width of approximately 3 meters and sufficient room to turn or maneuver. If your property has restricted access (narrow lanes, low bridges, or tight gates), please notify us beforehand so we can send a smaller vehicle if available.
Our service is “kerbside delivery.” This means the driver will place the crate or bag as close to your storage area as safely possible using their equipment. For health and safety reasons, our drivers cannot hand-stack logs into your log store. If neccesary that would be on extra charges
Hardwood is precious! If it is pouring rain, our drivers will do their best to place the wood in a sheltered spot. Our crates and bags are generally open-topped for airflow, so we recommend having a tarp ready or moving the wood into your log store immediately upon delivery. But are trying to Implement the use of nylon raps to cover the tops against direct rain penetration.
While we can usually specify the day of delivery, exact time slots are difficult due to traffic and previous stops. However, most of our vehicles are equipped with tracking, and we can often provide a “one hour away” call if requested.
We are committed to sustainability! We can collect empty crates or bulk bags on your next delivery. Simply leave them flat-packed where the driver can easily grab them while dropping off your new order.
We deliver to the entire length and breadth of mainland UK and Skye. We provide local and regional delivery coverage. Most of our standard rates apply to a specific radius from our depot. For nationwide or out-of-area deliveries, please enter your postcode at checkout, as a small haulage surcharge may apply.
